On 14 October 2015 the offices of EBF and its members were officially opened with a joint ceremony. As president Frédéric Oudéa pointed out on this occasion this marks a major moment in our history. With this step EBF broadens its focus beyond the Brussels domain of EU policy and regulation. From now on EBF also actively engages in Frankfurt, the new centre of gravity in European banking supervision. Since the inception of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) EBF has been establishing itself as a dialogue partner between the European Central Bank and its supervised banks. The opening of a local office is just another step to demonstrate EBF’s commitment towards Banking Union and the SSM.
For the opening ceremony Frédéric Oudéa and Wim Mijs were pleased to welcome Ignazio Angeloni, member of the Supervisory Board, as guest of honour. Mr Angeloni provided the guests with an insightful speech about the set-up of the SSM and the challenges for the European banking industry. He also pointed out that EBF is an important stakeholder of the SSM and expressed his conviction that the establishment of our Frankfurt office will help to ensure better cooperation between the two institutions. In his concluding remarks, Mr Angeloni called to maintain a constructive dialogue between the SSM and the banking industry to achieve the common goal of ensuring a sound banking system.
As a symbol of the commitment of both institutions to work closely together Ignazio Angeloni and Frédéric Oudéa gave a spontaneous performance on stage and “hooked up” the ECB and the EBF.
The EBF looks forward to welcoming members and guests to our new offices. We want the location to become a common space to work, meet people and exchange ideas.
